Mortality Barn owls are short-living birds Most die in the first year of thier lives and have an average life expectancy of 1 to 2 years in the wild. But, there is hope, in North America, the oldest known wild barn owl lived to be 11 years and 6 months old. Plus, in Holland, another wild barn owl lived to be 17 years and 10 months old. Also, in England, a captive female was retired from breeding at the age of 25!

WHERE ARE THEY? The Barn owl is found in almost all habitats but more are found in open woodland, heaths, and moors. |
Voice The Barn owl's voice is usually a screech. The courtship call of a Barn owl is a reppetetive twittering, which is almost the same as when they are disturbed when roosting.
